Samuel Shopp was raised in South Jersey and is a lifelong fighter for working families. A member of the Pennsylvania Bar, Sam graduated from Rutgers Law School in 2023 after earning his B.A. degree in English from Rutgers University in 2018. Prior to joining Spear Wilderman after graduation , Sam interned for the Juvenile Law Center, the Securities & Exchange Commission, and the Rutgers Law Housing Advocacy Clinic.
Sam represents labor unions in a variety of industries, from electric and gas utilities to service employees in retail stores and office buildings. Since joining the firm, Sam has developed a specialization in employment discrimination law, and he is the firm’s go-to lawyer on labor and employment issues in the cannabis industry, supporting the efforts of union organizers in that quickly-developing field.
Sam also handles ERISA matters on behalf of multiemployer benefit plans. His background in fiduciary law, financial markets, and corporate governance, gained from working on securities fraud litigation with the SEC, gives him a sophisticated, high-level approach to his representation of benefit plans.
Sam received the 2022 Mary Philbrook Student Public Interest Award from Rutgers Law School in recognition of his tireless advocacy for juvenile justice, tenants’ rights, and refugee assistance. In his personal life, he helps organize strike support for unions in the tristate area and is a regular presence on picket lines, wherever they may be.
